Q1: So, why did you choose to live and work in Connecticut?

I met my husband 13 years ago, he was born and raised in Connecticut. We did long-distance for a while, but when he got a great job in CT, I decided to join him here. During my multiple visits, I fell in love with the shoreline towns we visited. Ironically, Mystic was one place where I could visualize myself livinghappily enough, I did end up here!

Q2: What career opportunities have you found here?

I have worked in the education field for 10 years. While it was very rewarding, I was ready for a change. So, I started my blog Knot So Loud, to increase awareness of deaf culture and share my love for coastal Connecticut. Frequent collaboration with small businesses allows me to do what I love — meet people and help to promote shopping local. During the pandemic, I started doing photography during my many walks, and selling some prints became another income for me. I love that I can make a career out of doing what I really enjoy!

Q3: What’s your favorite thing about living in Connecticut?

Fall happens to be my favorite season, so I love to explore statewide for fall foliage spots. I fell in love with driving through the rural countryside in northeastern Connecticut on the back roads. The Litchfield region is beautiful; currently, it’s my spot to find foliage. I plan to explore more towns/regions during the fall because there are plenty of beautiful areas!

Q4: Any hidden gems or favorite spots you’d recommend?

There are so many I could recommend! As a book lover, I love going to the Book Barn in Niantic. It’s one of my favorite activities to watch the fishing vessels in Stonington borough, and I’m grateful for the fresh seafood we get on the shoreline! I frequent J&R Seafood Market in Mystic for all the seafood. Most often, you will find me at Mystic Seaport with my pup strolling the grounds during the summers. Other favorites are the historical libraries we have in this state. The two closest to me  Wheeler Library (North Stonington) and Mystic & Noank Library (Mystic) are gorgeous.

Q5: What would you tell someone your age who’s considering moving here?

From what I’ve seen in my area, there are a lot of professional opportunities! It’s amazing to see the growth in local businesses. There are also so many fun activities to do in your personal time. I’m constantly discovering new-to-me spots, visiting new towns, trying out so many foods, and more. I’ve been here for over a decade now, but there are still so many new things to do and see!

I also like how Connecticut has a variety of atmospheres; if you’re in the mood for the beach, go to the shoreline. If you want the rural countryside, go to the Litchfield region. If you want the mountains, we have skiing/snowboarding. If you want the city, I love visiting New Haven!
